Family Caregivers Support Program, which was supported
in part by the Alzheimer’s Association in Gainesville until
2006. Kathleen, a native Floridian, grew up in Sarasota. She
received her Bachelors Degree in Rehab Counseling from the
University of Florida. It was in 2004 that Kathleen began working for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Golf Tournament

Annual Caregiver Conferences

April 7th was a gorgeous
day for golf at the Haile
Plantation Golf & Country
Club. Upon arriving, players received goodie bags, purchased raffle tickets, stretched with Pilates experts, enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Lewis Oil Company, visited the Education area, and participated in the opening
ceremony where Dr. Billy
Thomas and his wife,
Brenda, were honored. At
1pm, the 112 golfers made their way to the tees to the sound of bagpipes, and the tournament officially started. After 18 holes of golf, everyone enjoyed appetizers and beverages while we gave
away door prizes. This year’s winning team was foursome Bryan Chamberlain, Rick Childress, Keith Patterson and Neeld Wilson. Congratulations! Thank you to our 2006 Twilight Round Golf Tournament sponsors
and volunteer committee!

Caregivers in Ocala and Gainesville were treated to a day of relaxation, respite, and fellowship with other caregivers at our annual Caring for the Caregiver Conferences this spring. On May 2nd, 125 caregivers attended “Sowing the Seeds of Hope” in Ocala. It was a wonderful day beginning with a breakfast provided by Eisai Pharmaceuticals, followed by inspirational speaker, Carol Clendinen, and time to share triumphs
and challenges with fellow caregivers. After a fabulous lunch provided by Forest Pharmaceuticals and Superior Residences at Cala Hills, Gloria Quigley led the group in Guided Imagery. Finally, the day came to a close with a special butterfl y release
in memory and in honor of loved ones with dementia. On June 15th, 75 caregivers from 5 counties attended “I’m Earning My Wings” in Gainesville. Participants were treated to breakfast provided by Eisai Pharmaceuticals before sharing lots of laughs
with morning speaker, Gaye Martin. Gaye shared her own experiences as a caregiver with plenty of humor and a positive outlook. After enjoying lunch provided by Williams-Thomas Funeral Homes, caregivers took part in an interactive stress-relieving activity and laughed along with speaker Linda Ball. The day closed with a poem written by a caregiver for her mother. Thank you to the 2006 Caregiver Conference Committees and
our many sponsors for making these days possible!
